Opening fixtures released

The Northern Alliance has published details of its opening fixtures, with a total of ten games so far announced.

Gillford Park will begin their life as a Premier Division outfit with a tough trip to Gateshead Leam Lane, formerly Wallsend, and this will also be their hosts first competitive outing at their new ground in the Leam Lane area, to the south of the Tyne.

Other dates for your diary are the second arranged match, on 15th August at home to Northbank Carlisle, the following Wednesday, 22nd August, when Carlisle City visit Gillford Park, and the 29th August, when we are away at Harraby Catholic Club. On the 8th September Gilly will welcome former Northern League club, Alnwick Town.

Newcastle University, who have been experiencing troubled times recently, have been given a stay of execution and wont begin their season until 1st September. Therefore, the League Cup game scheduled for August 25th has been postponed until 1st September, and a League fixture may be arranged for the 25th.

No games have yet been scheduled for September 22nd, a date when the Northern Alliance will meet the Wearside League in a representative game, and matches will be arranged once the teams have been announced.

One disappointing aspect of the announcement is that the three Carlisle derbies have been scheduled midweek, and coincide with a meeting between the remaining two Carlisle teams, and these two factors could impact on the anticipated high attendance, and thus, club revenue.
