HEATON Stannington boss Derek Oman has issued a war cry ahead of his team’s visit to Gillford Park on Saturday. Oman is confident his young team can stop Gillford’s march to the title, but admits he would like to add to his squad before the crunch game in Carlisle. He said: “We did well against Carlisle City on Saturday and hopefully we’ll have a few back from injury this week. I’m also looking to sign two players. I don’t think it’d be right for me to say who until they’re here, but they’re both currently with Northern League teams. “I think it will be a hard game, neither side are pushovers and both are doing well in the league. I thought we were definitely the best team when we played up here and we’ll be going for the win. We’re always there for the win.” The sides first met in September with a one-one draw the outcome; Heaton contentiously being denied a potentially match-winning penalty in injury time. Oman added: “We've got to give all credit to Gillford; they came up here and were fairly short-staffed I believe. They did well in holding on for the draw, I thought we had by far the most chances and deserved the win." Gillford took the lead through Danny Palmer after only nine minutes and looked destined to take the points before John Campbell popped up to score three minutes from time. That day, an injury ravaged Gillford were without top scorer Lee Otway and ex-Carlisle United midfielder Steven Skinner. Park manager Jimmy McMurdo will have a full pool of players for Saturday’s match, including Workington Reds recruits Dan Rayson and David Renyard who were also unavailable for the first game. And after beating Gretna’s ‘SPL Under-19 League’ side three-nil in a friendly match last midweek, Gillford will be hoping their secret players can spring a surprise in their first competitive game since December 8.
The match kicks off at the Gillford Park
Stadium at 1.30 pm on Saturday, (January 26,). Admission costs £1 for
Adults and Children Free. A 28 page programme will be issued for £1. |
