Graham is Gould for Gillford

Former Workington Reds prodigy Graham Goulding got his Gillford Park career off to a flying start with the first goal at Peterlee Town yesterday.

In terrible conditions on a cold, wet, windy and snowy day, Peterlee twice levelled the game after Gillford went ahead, but there was no counter when the final, fatal third goal crashed home to give the visitors a valuable three-two win.

No match report has been filed.

Meanwhile, Gillford Park was due to host two County Representative matches at Under-16 and Under-18 level. Committee member Mike 'Celtic' Alexander wrote:

"The Cumberland FA had two representative games scheduled for Gillford today but, due to the state of our second pitch, it was decided to play the Under-16s match at Pirelli. The move evidently disrupt the local youngsters, who won through four-nil.

"The Under-18s match was a true game of two halves. In the first half CFA totally dominated and but for a sterling performance by the Northumberland FA keeper Kyle Hayes they could have been out of the game all together. A close range strike by attacking midfielder Craig Johnstone in the 15th minute was the difference at the break.

"The second half saw a transformed Northumberland and during the first 30 minutes they struck the bar twice, the post three times and brought out three top class saves from home keeper James Bryden.

"The last 15 was end to end stuff and the standard of play left this reporter checking his notes to make sure it was an Under-18 game as some of the football would have graced any pitch in our league and maybe even higher.

"Around 48 people saw a very competitive game of football and despite the bitter cold and savage hailstorm all had a good day."
