Seaton Stalemate
GILLFORD Park were left cursing their
draw-habit as they once again played a part in an uninspiring stalemate
this afternoon, against Seaton Delaval Amateurs.
The match took a while to get started but in
the opening ten minutes both teams created a couple of chances; Gillford
going closest with an effort from Darren Addison.
However, a sky high shot from Seaton Delaval proved a turning point after
11 minutes and from then until half-time there were only three shots on
target, all easily saved by the respective goalkeepers.
The second half was much the same and for the second match between these
two teams a poor playing surface took its toll, though on this instance
there wasn’t the excuse of the weather.
A rare moment of drama came in the 67th minute when a Seaton Delaval
defender jumped with his elbows into Gillford’s Lee Otway.
After exchanging expletives, the home defender shoved Otway, who then - it
appeared to the referee at least - took a swing at the offending defender,
and the pair were shown red by the official.
This seemed to spur Gillford to life and, like their opponents, they
continued to work hard and controlled the match in the final 15 minutes;
creating almost twice as many chances as they had in the previous 65.
However, despite their late dominance, there was no way through to the
goal for the Carlisle side and the game ended a disappointing draw,
leaving Jimmy McMurdo with some tough decisions ahead of the Northern
Counties Cup Semi-Final at home to Northumberland, next Saturday (kick off
1.30 pm).
Some photos and a full match report will
be online later. |
