Sometimes you just have to be thankful for small graces. Like a game going ahead, or a positive performance that just wasn't rewarded with a win. It was testament to the hardwork of the ground-staff that this game went ahead at all - one of a handful in the county and one of less than fifty across the North West - and their devotion was pulled into focus when the Border Spartans' match on the second pitch was forced to be postponed. Neither side really came into their own during the first half, but Seaton took the lead when a ball through the middle split the defence open and the all-red striker sent it over the committed Gavin Armstrong (I think this was it, don't blame me if it wasn't as I didn't really see it and do have the match report yet). Gillford could and should have equalised just before the break when a penalty was awarded, but the Seaton Delaval stopper contrived to keep the midfielders spot kick from the goal with an excellent save, tipping it on to the upright from where it bounced out and was cleared. In the second half Gillford's Darren Addison scored, moving in from the right wing before shooting across the box and into the left hand side of the goal. A match report and photos will be on later. |
