A second-half strike by former Football League midfielder Steve Skinner took the points for Gillford Park in the Premier Division outing at Newcastle University yesterday. In a hard-fought match, Newcastle University kept up the old adage 'beware a wounded animal', as the second-bottom team scrapped hard for the valuable points they so desperately need in their fight for survival. For the first time since he joined, Graham Goulding didn't get his name on the scoresheet as he was partnered up front by Kyle Armstrong, in the absence of Dan Rayson. Rayson was turning out for Workington Reds reserves. It was his Reds' colleague Dave Renyard who set up the goal for Skinner to strike home in the 57th minute. With Heddon losing, the win further strengthens our promotion challenge ahead of the two crunch matches with Harraby Catholic and Walker Central later this week. |
