ON FRIDAY we received a visit from Northern League officials to determine whether or not our stadium is up to scratch should we qualify for promotion this season year. In the weeks and days ahead of their visit, a loyal band of Gillford Park players, committee members and supporters have joined together to tidy up the stadium. The ‘Action Group’ has been doing its utmost to ensure that the ground not only sails past the regulations but also looks tidy and suitably impressive for the 'Grounds Committee's' trip to Carlisle. The construction work has included: Complete overhaul of the pitch perimeter fencing. Removing the sponsors’ boards, ripping out the old fencing, erecting a new skeleton frame around the pitch before equipping it with a long-life fascia. Removing loose stones on the hard standing concrete pathway, making access easier for disabled supporters, safer in the frosty winter months and removing the unlikely possibility that loose stones could be used as missiles. Transforming the upstairs viewing/training gallery in the Brooks Mileson stand, cleaning the main gallery and providing it with spectator seating and tables. This is potentially to be used to accommodate executive sponsors. Removing worn out seats from both the Brooks Mileson Stand and the South Side Stand, and giving all three covered areas a spring clean. Tidying up rubbish lying around the ground and improving the access to all sides of the ground, as well as to the disabled toilets on the North side of the Brooks Mileson Stand Ordering brand new £20,000 floodlights and approaching the Planning Authority for formal planning permission. Fitting out the Brooks Mileson Stand tea-bar with new equipment and improving the ‘tannoy’ system. The results of the inspection will not be found out until Friday morning, after a Northern League committee meeting on Thursday night. However, it is said to have been positive in many areas. A few issues were highlighted as 'action points', such as the lack of hard standing behind the goal at the far end of the ground and the fact that, though it is compressed gravel, the pathway along the front of the terrace is not solid. Check this site on Friday evening for all the news. |
