Newcastle University Preview
Gillford Park manager Jimmy McMurdo has
received a boost ahead of the trip to bottom placed Newcastle University.
Top scorer Lee Otway will return to the fray having served a seven day
suspension. Otway picked up the penalty in his first game back from a
separate 21 day suspension.
McMurdo said: "It's a massive boost to have Lee back. He scored a
first-half hat-trick in our last game with Newcastle University and is an
important member of the team."
Gillford won that League Cup match three-nil and 'The Students' haven't
fared better since. They are currently second-bottom in the Northern
Alliance Premier Division, joined on points with basement outfit Northbank
Carlisle.
But McMurdo, whose side hasn't played for four weeks due largely to the
weather in the North East, thinks the game will present as much of a
challenge as any. He added: "The lads are all fit anyway and they've been
out training and playing football.
"I never expect three points from any game. We're going over there with a
decent squad who are all keen to get back to winning ways after so long
out, and we'll do our best to get the win."
Gillford Park will travel to Newcastle with a full team and have lined up
a friendly with Gretna's Youth Academy team tonight, Thursday, on the
all-weather pitch at the Newton Rigg campus in Penrith. |
