Gillford Park were involved in a dour first period away at Heddon when their only efforts of note in the opening half fell to Chris Grainger and Tom Brocklebank who were not strong enough to break through Heddon’s rigid home defence. The breakthrough came just before the hour mark when Danny Palmer pulled down Max Turner in the area, with central midfield player Ian McElroy sending the substitute keeper Jack Twentyman the wrong way with his successful spot kick. Dave Renyard was unlucky not to equalise in the 75th minute when his 25-yard free kick just missed an upright with the home keeper Ronan Lawlor scrambling across his goal, but Heddon made the game safe in the 80th minute when McElroy got his second of the game, to leave Gillford Park the time to concentrate on their remaining league campaign. |
